Day 68
Monday 7/07/08
Cloncurry to Mount Isa
Distance 132.11 km
Cumulative 4,917.70
About to enter Mt Isa after a long and gruelling 125km ride from Cloncurry, by this time we were fairly beat and any uphills felt like the sides of Mt Everest. The smokestacks of the refineries can be seen in the distance.
The road trains have been very good despite their size. Where possible they give us ample room, and even though these photos look scary, we would rather have road trains to deal with than some of the other drivers on the road
Midway between Cloncurry and Mt Isa is this beautiful view of the countryside, so different from the last week’s scenery before and after Normanton.
In the main street of Cloncury is this ‘fossil’ that is actually made up of bits of machinery, presumably salvaged from old mining equipment in the town.
A special sign erected for our passing, it has no doubt already been pulled down and will be moved closer to Camooweal before we get there.
